Hi all,
Went to Skegness last week for the first time in about 20 years. I'm trying to work out where things used to be. Has the outdoor pool always been where it is now and is the clock tower building the same building that had the 'Our true intent is all for your delight' sign on it.
Si

no and yes

The outdoor pool has been there for a while but the original outdoor pool was in front of the clock tower (now another car park)
(There was a second outdoor pool where the go karting is now but that was filled in to make way for crazy golf in the 60's)

next to the outdoor pool which is there now, thats the clock tower (now a traditional style pub)

hope that answers your question, best thing to do is study old postcards!

Isn't the pub the Sun&Moon - it has a children's park in now and I think that Butlins should have a comepletely separate huge car park and some kind transport for the luggage - then do little parks where the car parks are now so the children can love Butlins even more :D (now lets see how many years it will take for someone in the Magement of Butlins to think of it!)

Spot on Katie

Well Billy Butlin did think of it. But today they need more car parking space (as more people have cars!!!) BUT WHY did they choose to use the whole front stretch of Butlins (Skeg). It looks so unappealing from the road, in the older days, cars used to slow down to have a look at what they were missing, now all they see is a car park and tin buildings, of course once you're in its different, but if shops on the high street adopted the same policy in their windows they would have no customers!!

You're right they should have a multi story car-park opposite the camp and a shuttle bus, or some kind of luggage service and make better use of the front of the centre.

yes: its the sun and moon pub, well remembered. So its no longer a pub then?

the modern planning of the site is the thing that comes up most about skegness, the fact car parking is all around the site does make it look like an industrial site, especially with the clad buildings.
