Early weddings at Butlins Skegness (?)

Postby Joker » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:09 am

We have just received this email. Anyone help.

Hi

I'm currently researching my family tree and believe that my great grandmother might have been the first person to be married at Butlins Skegness. I'm writing to ask how far back the records go. She would have been an older lady at the time, she was a widow and my mother recalls that photos of the wedding were in the local papers. Her name was Kate Cook and I don't know the name of her new husband. I'm assuming it was post-war but not sure when they started having weddings at Skegness.

Can you please direct me to someone that might have access to the archives which might give me a date and then I can search for photos. I appreciate any help you might be able to give.

Kind regards
Fran Johns

Hello Fran, I think you would need to contact the registry in Skegness, they must surely have archives going back that far. I'd forgotton that you could get married at Butlins at one time. How amazing that you have that bit of Butlins history in your family. I wish you luck with your search.
oh happy days
