Must have missed that one two and a half years ago, or else I forgot about it. The idea of Dovercourt being connected with Butlin's was brought to my attention by someone on wikipedia who provided several links to information about this, including a link to this thread.

1. An official promotional poster for Doveroucrt holiday lido. The details about it say that it's "in association with Butlin's holiday camps", and if you zoom in it also says this on the actual poster (small print at the bottom).

2. Information from the national archives (scroll to near the bottom of the page to find the info on Dovercourt)

3. Most interesting of all, what appears to be an authentic Butlin's promotional poster that actually lists ONLY Skegness, Clacton, and Dovercourt!

4. Another source from the book "A history of Butlin's railways" also mentioning Dovercourt.

As best I can tell, it looks like after Billy Butlin opened Skegness and Clacton, he built Dovercourt Bay holiday camp, probably intending it to become a fully fledged Butlin's camp, but for some reason decided after it opened to sell it to Warners, but Butlin's still helped to promote it for a year. Can anyone shed further light on this for me as it has me very intrigued.
