Good photograph of the famous Mark Bates Barry Islands resident football coach Suzy Ellis and I think Jake childrens redcoat.
This photograph either 80 or 81.
Thank You.
Worked as a redcoat at Barry Island for 3 seasons my first year was 81.Still in touch with a few of the old gang and every now and then we meet up and get lashed.

Hey Goodie nice to see you on here ha ha.

I used to go to Barry Butlins for the day when I was a kid.

Was a sad day in my life when it was closed and finally demoilshed.

When I was a kid I used to go to Pwllheli for a week this was from about 1973 to 1979. I have fond memories and will never forget my times there. As we all know it has been taken over by Haven. I have recently looked at an aerial view as it is now, my God it broke my heart.

Gone is the Amusement Park the Chair Lifts, the Scenic Railway and the Outdoor Pool. All it seems to be is caravans everywhere.

RUINED!!!

Just wondering if anybody else here went to Pwllheli.

I've only ever been on day trips to Pwllheli. Ist time was 1989, then 1994, 1996 and 1998 (right at the very end of the very last season before it became Haven, although I didn't know that at the time).

Never liked it as much as Minehead or Skegness, but a fine Butlins camp it was nevertheless.

Such a shame to hear what Haven has done. Looks like it's had all the life sucked out of it. It's funny to think that some families with young kids probably holiday there now, and the kids with no memory of the camp when it was Butlins probably still think it's great.

That's good, but if only they knew just how great it used to be!!!

Hi all,

Barry Island was the camp for me, we went several times a year. I use to get upset at the end of the week, when it was time to leave my very beloved Butlins, even though i only lived 12 miles away in Cardiff :D

I live near Derby now, where i have lived for a number of years, but still go back home to Cardiff, regular, to see my folks.

Me and the wife often sit on Barry front and have ice-cream & donuts. It break my heart, when i now look at where the Butlins camp use to stand.

Memories are a wonderfull thing.

Matt. Son of the Butlins favourite, Big Shirl. :D
