just seen that pontins has announced the closure of blackpool at the end of october.it is sad to hear but it has looked a dump for years and there has been rumours all year about the site as the lease was about to end.

Been on the cards for a while, no doubt another housing estate although I wouldn't like to live that close to the airport flight path.

Rumor was that Fred Pontin was diverted to Blackpool airport after a wasted trip looking for possible sites on the Isle of Man when he spotted the site coming in to land.

just a little update on pontins blackpool,i drove past today on my deliveries and although it only closed after a private function last friday, they're not hanging around in de-commisioning the site.all the pontins signs have been taken down and half of the chalet blocks along the main road look like they've already been stripped out.railings have been installed fencing off thr car parks, and the entrance seems to have big steel gates up.

passed pontins a few hours ago and the bulldozers and wrecking machines are in and causing destruction,i noticed a large pile of rubble just inside the front gate and saw that some of the chalets along the front have had all there window frames ripped out, another of the uk's famous camps will be soon history

thanks for those alex, you caught the scene very well,i didn't think the dunes across the road were so high to get such a good angle, shows how much work has already been done.

thanks for the pics alex been on holiday for 10 days in torbay and minehead, last past pontins on the 19th,so looks like i might get a shock this thursday when i'm back in blackpool.
what the demolition does show is what little there was on sight,i'd never been on the site before, but take the chalets away and there wasn't much there.

whilst passing yesterday i stopped for a nosey, what i couldn't work out is why the blue building which looked like it might of been a shop is partially demolished, then has been sealed at both ends with plastic.wonder if they came across some unexpected asbestos.

one other thing i've never noticed before is that wasn't the chalets such a basic build compared to butlins.

The plastic clad building had workers coming and going from it. Asbestos sounds like a good explanation.

During my weekly visits I have witnessed one or two Jet2 take offs and wouldn't want to live in a house on the site.

This one wasn't one of the lowest.
